Haute Music: Cosmic Gate Returns to Pacha NYC

“Two for 2011″ is what a fans sign read amongst the fierce Pacha New York crowd this past Friday, July 15. “We Love Cosmic Gate” reads another, as fans lined up outside 418 W. 46th St. yet again, this time to pay gratitude to their favorite trance music duo, Cosmic Gate. The legendary EDM DJ/Producers were back in NYC for the second time this year. At least one thing was different this time around, bringing along their friend and colleague, Wippenberg. The German DJ/Producer responsible EDM tunes such as “Chakalaka”, “Pong”, and “Drumster” along with the newly released instant-classics, “Phoenix” and “UR”. Wippenberg was sure to crush any remaining genre boundaries with his wide range track selection this Friday in New York. Playing his remix of Nadia Ali with Tocadisco “Better Run”, his remix of Ingrosso’s “Kidsos” as well as the 2009 house music anthem “Leave The World Behind” with Axwell, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso & Laidback Luke. After a perfectly suited set from Wippenberg, New York began catching glimpses of Cosmic Gate who had entered the Pacha New York DJ Booth shortly before 1 AM.

Wippenberg

Sticking to their signature sound, the duo were sure to give fans what they came to hear, classics such as “Exploration of Space”, “Raging”, and “Fire Wire” had the crowd reliving the times of Cosmic Gate past. While rejoicing to the new Cosmic Gate remix of Robbie Rivera Featuring Lizzie Curious, “Departures”, fans were able to get the best of both worlds. Supporting the new First State mash-up of Sander Van Doorn’s “Koko” with Afrojack & R3hab’s “Prutataaa” as well as a mash-up of Diddy Featuring Skylar Gray “Coming Home” Dirty South Remix with Steve Angello “Knas”. Two of the years biggest from Above & Beyond “Sun & Moon” and “Thing Called Love” were also played by the duo, serenading the trance family of New York City. Unleashing classics such as Nadia Ali’s “Rapture” as well as celebrating the 2011 return of EDM music icon’s Gabriel & Dresden, the german duo also payed respect to Andain’s “Beautiful Things”. The pair which were full of energy and excitement kept the crowd moving until after 4 A.M with a rather consistent flow, leaving those who had returned Back to Pacha to Explore Space for the second time this year pleasantly satisfied.

After a mesmerizing set lasting slightly longer than three hours, NYC native DJ/Producer Jason Jollins followed the German Trance music duo. Keeping the crowd moving with his consistent flow and excellent track selection, Jollins impressed even those attending Pacha NY for their very first time. With his spot on track selection and precision following Cosmic Gate, NYC native Jason Jollins makes keeping the party going until sunrise seem effortless. Following their New York City Night, Cosmic Gate headed to Club Glow in Washington DC with Wippenberg.

HAUTE Music: New York City Loves Markus Schulz

Thoughts most certainly do become things. With the release of the new Dakota album Thoughts Become Things II, Markus Schulz stopped in New York City this past Friday June 17th, for a night full of “fury”. Tweeting to his fans earlier Friday evening, Markus Schulz stated he was on his way to Pacha NYC for soundcheck, “gotta make sure the building will be able to handle the fury of the night”. And that it did. 418 W 46th St. was once again serenated, this time by the sounds of one of trance music’s finest DJ’s and producers, Markus Schulz.

Setting the mood for the evening, open sets were provided back to back by New York City natives Jason Jollins and Zack Roth. Taking the decks at 1AM precisely, following the duo, Markus Schulz began with a bang and kept his flow consistent throughout the remainder of the night. Early in the night, playing Sander Van Doorn‘s new track “Koko” mashup up with Afrojack & R3hab‘s “Prutataaa“, Schulz was sure to make Pacha NYC his home for the next five hours. Focusing less on vocal tracks and more on hard-hitting club tunes, Schulz also featured Jochen Millers’ 2011 take on his own “Brace Yourself“, old-school classic “Zombie Nation” as well as some of his own more recent productions “Do You Dream“, “Rain“, “The New World“, “Away” with Sir Adrian, “Sinners” and “Perception” with vocals by Justine Suissa.

The night was full of Big Room Reconstructions to say the least, which is exactly what we had all intended. After all, a massive Markus Schulz twist to any track will have your hands in the air in no time. Fans went wild for Yuri Kane‘s “Right Back” from 2010 with Rank 1′s “The Great Escape” as well as Armin Van Buuren‘s new release with Christian Burns, “This Light Between Us“. The evening’s blasts from the past were Nadia Ali “Rapture”, Ferry Corsten “Punk”, Delirium The Silence“, and Rex Mundi with SusanaNothing At All”. Also Bringing back classics by request, such as project alongside Departure, “Without You Near” as well as Schulz’ own mash-up of Rex Mundi and Ronski Speed with “The Perspective Space“, the crowd showed no signs of slowing down around 5AM. With the dance-floor still bumping, the music still pumping and Markus still full of energy, it was left a mystery as to how long the party would last.

By 6AM with the house lights already on, the crowd was still chanting “Markus” as if he was just opening the night. Markus Schulz is association with Made Event provided NYC with a superb trance party. Schulz placing #7 last year in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ Poll, released a “Do You Dream” album as a well as a remix CD of the release. Markus Schulz will return to New York for the Electric Zoo Festival this September 2 on Randall’s Island. Tickets are on sale now through MadeEvent.com and ElectricZooFestival.com.

Haute Spots: Summer in Central Park

Last weeks weather was  gorgeous in New York City and I had the opportunity to visit Central Park, which everyone should do at least once when visiting New York in the summer. In this look, I am wearing a basic black tee and high-waist khaki pants from Forever 21. To bring a pop of color into the mix, I wore my latest pair of shoes, and birthday gift from the boyfriend, the Tick Paint Shoe in Taupe by Jeffrey Campbell. I love the splattered blues, reds, yellows, and white, making them look more like a work of art than your average wedges. Wearing a shoe this busy should be worn with a neutral silhouette and I found that the black tee and pant combo was light, simple, and classic. Just the right combination when worn together, doesn’t overpower the shoes. High fashion shades are also a fashion staple of mine. Seen below, I am wearing my favorite pair by Alexander McQueen.

Haute Music: Above & Beyond Releases Group Therapy

If at all possible, Above & Beyond may have waited five years to release their latest studio album because the amount of compassion, genuineness, sincerity, truth, subtleness, and sheer dedication that went into “Group Therapy” is not something to be taken lightly. With their signature sound United Kingdom natives, Jono Grant, Paavo Siljamaki, and Tony McGuinness have done it again. The masterminds behind Anjunabeats and OceanLab bring you their latest 2011 release “Group Therapy”. The 15 track masterpiece is filled with emotion, intensity and just the right amount of subtlety making it suitable for any mood. Whether heading to the beach, or getting ready to hit the club, Group Therapy is full of 2011 electronic dance music anthems.

Joined again by vocalist Richard Bedford on the album’s “On My Way To Heaven”, “Every Little Beat“, and “Black Room Boy” with the groups own Tony McGuinness, these tracks are sure to hit home for most listeners. Responsible for two of the biggest dance music anthems of 2011 thus far, Above & Beyond along with Bedford released “Sun & Moon” and “Thing Called Love” which have gained the support of DJs such as Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Sander Van Doorn, Gareth Emery and Cosmic Gate as well as dominated radio play and music charts. With tracks “Alchemy”, “You Got To Go“, “Giving It Out“, “Love Is Not Enough”, “Sweetest Heart“, and “Only A Few Things” the trio collaborated once again with Zoe Johnston. Johnston’s voice which cannot be mistaken, provides a calming touch to the album.

With the perfect culmination of symphonic melodies, blissful uplifting vocals, and soothing baselines, the melodic sounds showcased in Group Therapy are sure to not go unnoticed. The depth found within the lyrics of the tracks on Group Therapy, not only represent real life, but also dabble into the depths of philosophy and the meaning of life and death. Although Group Therapy focuses mostly on vocals, one should not be fooled. “Filmic“, “Prelude”, and “External”, three of the albums non-vocal tracks will have you feeling as though you’re soaring. The other instrumental track on the album which features only a faint vocal phrase “Sun In Your Eyes“, was written for one of the artists new born sons. Group Therapy will make you smile one minute and have you crying the next. The expressiveness found on each of the albums tracks will only leave you wanting more. Be prepared to set your playlist to repeat for 2011′s graceful return of Above & Beyond with Group Therapy, a must have for any dance music fan.

HAUTE Music: Sander van Doorn at Pacha NYC

A packed house for sure, 418 W 46th St. better known as Pacha NYC, was filled to the brim this past Friday June 3, for the legendary tech/”trouce” superstar Sander Van Doorn. With a rather consistent set featuring new explosive tracks from some of the biggest names in trance and house music today, it has become clear that EDM has landed in the United States, especially in major cities. The New York City return of Sander Van Doorn was long awaited and brought about a certain sense of excitement, which the crowd had been missing for a while. Lauren Lane, the opening female DJ, had prepared the crowd well, starting off simple, progressing nicely making way for the nights’ main talent. It was exactly 1A.M. when Lane and Doorn switched positions in the booth. Doorn, opening with Thomas Gold’s monstrous mix of Van Doorn’s “Reach Out” was just what the crowd needed to start the night off on the right note. Paying respect to Wippenberg, Van Doorn played both of Wippenbergs 2011 hits, “U R” and “Phoenix”, which were sure crowd pleasers.

Playing recent tunes such as AviciiPenguin“, Axwell Heart is King“, W&W’s explosive “AK-47″ and dubstep friendly “Spotfire” by Jacob Van Hage. Digging into the time capsule, Van Doorn also had the crowed jamming to an old school classic with a new remix, “Zombie Nation” with “Renegade”, a new re-edit of the 2009 Jochen Miller track “Brace Yourself“, and Nicky Romero‘s rendition of Green Velvet’sFlash” with “Intro“. Three of the nights biggest tracks, Depeche Mode’s “Personal JesusEric Prydz mix, Evol WavesRadiohead-sampled “Everything In It’s Right Place” and Diddy with Skylar Grey “Coming Home” vs. Cirez D “On Off”. Sure to stick to his roots, Doorn also played some of his well known productions and remixes, “Hymn 2.0“, his remix of The Killers “Spaceman” and the new “Koko” and “Love Is Darkness” with Carol Lee. New York City favorite Jason Jollins delivered another energetic set following Sander Van Doorn, keeping the crowd moving with his track selection even leaving the crowd wanting more upon closing.

Combining elements of many genres within house and trance music, Doorn has coined a signature sound which cannot be mistaken. Hard hitting bass, catchy melodies, and now even some vocals, Sander Van Doorn has slowly but surely creeping his way up into a higher position on the prestigious DJ Mag Top 100 Poll. Van Doorn appeared at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami this past March as a part of Armin Van Buuren “A State of Trance” Episode 500 celebration. The set was broadcasted live on Sirius XM Electric Area and also earned the dance music icon even more credibility. Sander Van Doorn who played for Made Event’s Electric Zoo Festival in 2010, is returning to Randall’s Island for Labor Day Weekend 2011, this time as a main stage headlining act.

HAUTE Looks: Get Refreshed for Summer with Neutrogena

Magen’s ChoiceOil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub

Any haute fashionable lady knows that skincare maintenance is a top priority to looking and feeling good and Neutrogena has the perfect skincare line for daily skincare maintenance. Considering they are the #1 dermatologist recommended over-the-counter- acne brand, Neutrogena is THE go-to brand. Their Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub is a triple threat product leaving your face feeling cleansed, refreshed and exfoliated. Don’t let the Pink Grapefruit scent scare you away; it is light scent and just what is needed for a morning pick me up. This daily scrub will deeply clean your pores and help reduce any existing acne at any level while also preventing any new blemishes. The microbeads are gentle enough to use on a daily basis without drying out or irritating your skin.

For someone who has stuck to the same skincare regime since I was about 13, trying a new product was a monumental moment in my life, but a moment that I will not regret. Neutrogena has me converted; I am addicted to the scrub and can’t get enough! My face can’t be more thankful; it feels smooth and healthier than it ever did. For only $6.99 this product will not hurt your wallet like other name brand products will, so go on out and do your face a favor!

Angela’s Choice: Pink Grapefruit Body Clear Body Wash

Girls tend to be somewhat picky when it comes to their choice of body wash. Some gravitate toward smell, while others look for the wash that will keep their skin most smooth. Finding the total package in a body wash can be a difficult task, until now. Neutrogena uses the most refreshing 100% natural pink grapefruit extract in their newest Pink Grapefruit Body Clear Body Wash, leaving your skin feeling silky smooth and smelling fresh. I cannot even stress enough how delicious this product smells. It is instantly refreshing to your skin and keeps it clear of pesky pimples with the use of  Salicylic Acid boosted by oil-blasting MicroClear technology. For $7.99, this 8.5 oz bottle is a steal for this heaven sent body wash. I have been using mine for the past two weeks, and I promise you, you will not be disappointed!
